'A Year In Garlic' - Reno Garlic Fest
I was hired in 2020 as the Social Media Manager for the Reno Garlic Festival.  However, due to the pandemic, the event’s in-person aspect needed to change. As a team, we worked to turn the event into a year-long online educational course called "A Year In Garlic.” The course covers seed garlic, local garlic varieties, soil health, planting, maintaining, fertilizing, scapes, harvesting, curing, and storage.  I had the unique opportunity to work with nine garlic growers in Northern Nevada and document their growing practices. Throughout this project, I worked as the social media manager, videographer, and photographer.
Fun Fact: Nevada is one of the largest garlic producers in the US.
Instructor - Katy Chandler is one of the founders of Reno Garlic Fest and the Be the Change Project. She runs Reno's garlic seed bank and grows lots of garlic!
Instructor - Earstin Whitten is a prominent figure in Reno's garlic scene. Having taught many how to grow garlic, he has even been coined the "Garlic Guru." In addition to his love for garlic, Earstin and his wife are the founders of Soulful Seeds. Soulful Seeds mission is to provide healthy sustainable fresh food to the most vulnerable in our communities.
